Selected for Solon High School Principal
SOLON, IA - The Solon Community School District is proud to announce the appointment of Drew Bunkers as the new principal of Solon High School pending board approval.
The search for the new principal was conducted in collaboration with Grundmeyer Leader Services. Bunkers underwent interviews with various groups, including students, parents, teachers, and community members, on April 10.
Mr. Bunkers currently serves as the High School Principal and district Career and Technical Education Coordinator in Dell Rapids (South Dakota). He has been in this role since 2017. His previous experience includes serving as a Business Education Teacher for Harrisburg Schools. He has also coached multiple sports, served on district leadership teams, and is currently the President of the Southeast Area Principal organization and Vice President of the Educators Rising board in South Dakota. Prior to his career in education, he worked for Daktronics and the Kimberly Clark Cooperation with a focus on marketing and sales.
Some of Drew’s awards and honors include receiving the Southeast Area Principals Pyramid Award for Communicator and Optimist in 2020 and 2022. He was also recently honored by his peers being named South Dakota’s Region 2 High School Principal of the year.
Drew is married to his wife, Melissa, and has three children - Kollyns (5), Reese (3), and Brynlee (1). He was excited about accepting the position and moving to Solon, saying, “I am thrilled for the opportunity to join the amazing team at Solon High School and look forward to serving the district and community. My family is eager to become a part of the Spartan family.”
Drew Bunkers will officially assume the role of Solon High School Principal on July 1, 2024.
